Take some time out to review the past year – How have you grown spiritually?
We measure our finances from year to year when we prepare our tax returns. We measure our weight and fitness. We celebrate high points during a year. But do we measure or consider how we have grown spiritually from year to year?
Friend, I can hear you say – but Rachel, how can we measure our spiritual growth?
I asked God that same question. He reminded me of different scriptures that talk about a place of completeness and maturity – which I believe is a good place for us to start our measuring. So I have collected 7 such verses for this week – spend some time soaking in the Word and asking yourself – am I there?
BUT…please don’t feel condemned – God has not given us a spirit of condemnation. Instead, use these verses as a tool to pinpoint an area of weakness that you can partner with God in the coming year. One amazing fact about our weaknesses is that they are the perfect ingredients for God’s power to be activated.
Start the Day focusing on one area:
- Write out the verse in your journal – there is something powerful in writing out the Word of God.
- Read the verse in other translations and read the verses around it.
- Look up what the original language (Hebrew/ Greek) of any word that sticks out to you – use Blue Letter Bible
- Talk over the verse with God – ask Him for his truth – his application to your day
- Journal your thoughts – What is the measure of growth – am I practicing that?
Day One :Am I Joyful in Hard Times?
James 1:2 “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds.” ESV
Day Two: Am I Filled with God? Do I really Know His Love?
Ephesians 3:17-19 …”that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” ESV
Day Three: Do I regularly take time out to just be Still and Know that God is God?
Psalm 46:10 ” Be STILL and KNOW that I am God” ESV
Day Four: What do I do when I feel anxiety rising up?
Philippians 4:6 ” Do NOT be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” ESV
Day Five: What is my view on my weaknesses? Do I rely on His power?
2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” ESV
Day Six: Have I learned to be CONTENT?
Philippians 4:11 -12 “…I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am. I know how to be abased and live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance. I have learned in any all circumstances the secret of facing every situation whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency and enough to spare or going without and being in want.” AMP
Day Seven: Have I discovered what God’s will is for my life?
Ephesians 5:17 “Therefore do not vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.” AMP
At the end of the week:
- Review your journal notes – which area needs more work?
- Pick one and make that you next 90 day goal.
- Ask God about how to grow more in that area.
- Look up verses in that area that speak life to you.
- Investigate Christian books on the topic.
