It feels like time for a Fresh Start.
A New Beginning.
A time to draw a line in the sand, step over and start afresh.
A time to renew vows.
A time to dust of those dreams.
A time to refresh our surroundings.
A time to get rid of the old stink’in thinking.
A time to refresh our mindset.
A time for inner and outer healing.
Even though it is not 1st of January.
Even in the middle of the ‘same old, same old’.
Even when we live in the same house.
Even with the same people around us.
Even in the same job.
Even in the same difficult situations and tricky issues.
We can walk in newness of life.
Do you believe it?
We were made to walk in Newness of Life
Read and dwell today in this verse from Romans chapter 6….
We are called to walk about this earthly life with a NEWNESS.
What does walking in newness of life mean?
To walk in newness means….
1. Oldness has to go …you can’t ascend to the next step without leaving the old step behind.
Jesus taught this new mindset in Luke 5:36-38 where he said.. New wine must be put into fresh wine skins.
What old routines need to cease and new ones start?
Is there clutter that is hindering your progress?
Are there certain types of food which needs to be replaced?
Does sleeping in need to be changed to waking early?
“You can’t reach for anything new if your hands are still full of yesterdays junk.” Louise Smith (racing car driver).
2. No time is perfect — start now!
It is so easy to put off starting something new.
We think we need more time or money to start.
We believe we need the right circumstances to change.
We put off new things for when the children grow up, then we delay it until they leave home, then we put it off more until we retire then it maybe too late.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” Chinese Proverb
Now is the time to love more and complain less.
Now is the time to carve out time in the Word.
Now is the time to practice thanksgiving.
Now is the time to face the truth and make changes.
Now is the time to forgive and mend fences.
Now is the time to laugh and smile.
3. We will never have all the answers — start now!
Faith takes the first step and trusts the next step will reveal itself. Oh I should add…in God’s timing.
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” Dr Martin Luther King Junior
4. Yes, there will be a learning curve — but’s that’s ok!
Anything new involves learning. That’s ok. Learning new things transforms us from a stinky dead end pond into a sparkling fresh stream.
“Be willing to be a beginner every single morning” Meister Eckhart German Theologian 1260 – 1328.
5. Finally in the words of Walt Disney “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing”
Action Step: So what is the Spirit speaking to you right now? Is there something new that the Father wants you to embark on? Is there something old that needs to be let go?
Father God, I thank you for the invitation to enjoy the newness of life in Christ. The old has gone, the new has come. Please help us to recognise the old things that need to be dropped. Give us increased faith to step out into the newness that you have planned for us. Above all we pray Psalm 25:4 “Show me your ways o Lord, teach me your paths”. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Keep Leaning into Him,
