Imagine how contented you would be if you lived your own life instead of trying to live someone else’s.
Why do we look around at how others are living and try to copy their lives? It wasn’t such a big deal when we were kids – we only had our fellow class mates or church friends to compare against. But now we live in a global society and the lure to compare ourselves with others has grown exponentially.
We can see the amazing adventures people go on via social media, while we are living ‘seemingly’ boring lives at home. We can see what they had for dinner while we are eating the same old basic meals. Through social media we read how other people are living and we feel that we need to do things the same way. This can extend into your spiritual life too.
Do you ever feel like you don’t measure up spiritually? You see and hear of how other people are living out their spiritual lives and you feel like you have missed the boat somehow.
But God didn’t make us all the same.
God has an unique blueprint for your life.
Tailor made just for you.
Good works prepared, that only you can do.
There are places God has designed for you to visit and live. Whether that is in the outback of Australia, the jungles of South America, the metropolis of a big city or your little country town.
There are encounters with specific people that God has arranged..beforehand.
There are conversations organised with you in mind.
How can we compare our lives, where we live, what we do, who we are becoming and the work we do, with anyone else?
I personally struggle with comparitis. I catch myself thinking, “If only I lived in Charlotte, N.C. or Narshville, that is where the Christian author scene is happening.” But God placed me in New Zeland for a reason and I am to allow Him to live out through me, where I am planted. He determined my race, gender, parents, sibblings and birth place for a reason… to live out his planned good paths, to bring Him glory and to enjoy Him.
It’s time to put away the comparisons and discover the paths that God has predesigned for you to walk down.
Your paths are going to look different to mine.
Let’s seek God for ourselves.
Let’s open His word, ready to receive His instructions for our own lives.
Let’s reframe what we see and hear from other people’s lives as encouragement for our own life rather than comparison. If God can work in that person’s life, he can work in mine also.
So, are you Living your Own Life? or are you comparing it with someone else? Are you seeking God’s preplanned GOOD paths and walking down them – not trying to walk down someone else’s paths? Keep leaning into Him,
