“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25 KJV
What do you notice about this simple verse?
There are two action words – Living and Walking. I have read this verse numerous times over the past four decades and I have always added the two verbs together and assumed that they were the same.
But, Living in the Spirit comes before Walking in the Spirit.
There is a difference or another layer between Living and Walking.
Before we can walk in the Spirit (experience true freedom and display the fruit mentioned in chapter 5 of Galatians), we need to understand what it means to live in the Spirit.
This is taking a look at the unseen rather than the seen. Looking at our life through the eyes of faith. We took a giant leap into the unseen when we received what God had offered through Jesus Christ. We decided that we didn’t want to live our life on our terms but on the Creator of the heavens and earth. We found new life. A new way of living.
Something changed on our Inside.
Someone moved in.
That Something and Someone started our Life in the Spirit.
Over time, as believers, we have become apathetic to this life-changing truth. We allow our earthly tasks and environment to cloud the heavenly truth of what is going on in the Inside.
Set aside some time now, this week, to ponder these Truths on our Inside Living when God choose us and we chose Him.
- We are Born of God. We are made up of three parts, spirit, soul (mind, will and emotions) and body. When we became Believers, our spiritual DNA changed. It was restored to its original design – spirit connecting with Spirit. We were given the authority to become a son or daughter of God (John 1:12). It is hard to comprehend this with our minds because it is a spiritual thing.
“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” Romans 8:16 ESV
Father God, please help me hear your Spirit testifying of my sonship/daughtership to my spirit.
- New Things Come, Old Things Pass Away. We have a new way of thinking, a new way of acting, a new way of living out relationships, work, identity, our purpose.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Father God, help me to count everything related to the old order as gone. Help me to recognise the new things and enjoy them.
- We are God Containers. Someone has moved in. We are now never, ever alone.
He is our Parakletos. Comforter, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate and Strengthener. FOREVER (John 14:16).
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? you are not your own” 1 Corinthians 6:19 ESV
He is also Christ.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” Galatians 2:20 ESV.
He is also Yahweh.
“and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:19 ESV.
“that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself!]” Ephesians 3:19b AMP.
Let the truth of God’s Word settle in your inner being. God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit lives inside you.
Father God, thank you for your indwelling eternal presence inside. Help me to live in and from your presence.
But, I will lean in to God!
