It is no fun being sick or lacking energy.
I have just recovered from a bad case of the flu – it took me a couple of weeks to get over it and gain back my energy.
I went to see the Doctor (after suffering for a week) and he made an interesting comment. He told me off for trying to work through fevers and sinus congestion. He said that we only have a certain amount of energy and if we spend it on trying to keep working our body would use up the energy and there would be none left to help the healing process.
Very interesting comment. The sick part of me said – Yes that’s true. But when I chatted to God about it – He reminded me of the vast amount of scriptures that declare that God is our Strength.
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
There is no searching of His understanding.
He gives power to the weak.
And to those who have no might He increases Strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31
I believe that in the natural we may have a limited amount of energy per day which we can improve with healthy eating and exercise. But there is far more available in the supernatural – in Christ. The passage above states that it is God who increases strength!
I want to carry out my days in the strength of the creator of the ends of the earth – the one who doesn’t need to sleep. He has an unending supply of strength and power for us.
Let’s turn this truth into a daily declaration:
Daily Strength Builder Number One
My God, the everlasting God, doesn’t get tired. He has an unending supply of strength that is available to me today. As I wait on the Lord now, I shall renew my strength, I shall mount up with wings like eagles and I will run today and not be weary and I will walk today and not faint.
Here are four more daily strength builders:
Daily Strength Builder Number Two
“God’s strength is made perfect in my weakness, so when I am weak, then I am strong.” (based on 2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
Daily Strength Builder Number Three
“I can do all things through the One who empowers me within.” (Philippians 4:13)
Daily Strength Builder Number Four
“The Lord will give strength to His people
The Lord will bless His people with peace” Psalm 29:11
Daily Strength Builder Number Five
“Jesus Himself bore my sins in His own body on the tree, that I, having died to sins, might live for righteousness; by His wounds I am healed.” (based on 1 Peter 2:24)
Take God’s word like medicine – the Proverbs 4 it tells us the the Word is life and health to our flesh.
There is an awesome story in John 4 where an official travelled to another town to ask Jesus to come back with him and heal his very sick son. Instead of Jesus going with him – he just spoke words “Go back home. You son will live!”. Verse 50 tells us what happened next – the official believed Jesus’ words then started travelling back home. On the way some of his servant met him with news that the boy was well – he asked them what time did the boy start getting better. The servants said the exact time when Jesus spoke those words – You son will live.
God’s words are powerful.
