The Nitty Gritty Part 2 So yesterday I gave you part 1 on how to practically see God working in the mess of your real life. Click here to read part 1. To recap: 1. Pray for God to be Real 2. Expect God to show up 3. Take time out to Reflect 4. Make Connections Praying, expecting and reflecting helps our minds and spirits to be aware of spiritual connections around us. The person who is spirit led in their daily lives makes connections between the natural and the supernatural. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but…

Day 30 – 7 practical steps to seeing God in the mess of your real life – Part One

The Nitty Gritty Part 1 Today I am going to get down to the nitty gritty – I have just spent 29 days sharing my take on seeing God in the mess of real life and by now some of you are probably saying… … yes! yes! I want to see God turn up in my days too – but how? How do I make it happen? So I have stepped back and reflected on what actions that I have taken that help to open my eyes to God working. I believe that God is always working – but we just…

Day 29 -it’s time to embrace the mess…

Life is messy on a normal day. This week it got even messier – people were dropping like flies in my house. From vomiting, the ‘d’ word to sore throats – we had it all. On one day we had 4 people home sick from varsity and work. My Psalm for the year – Psalm 46 – can you read it here – talks about how messy life is going to get in the Last Days. It talks about… …the earth giving way – Earthquakes …mountains moving & trembling -Volcanoes …waters roar and foam – Tsunamis …nations raging – War …kingdoms…

Day 28 -bring back the art of delighting in God

Yesterday I shared on our response to  seeing and sensing God working in your day – delight. Here are a couple of quotes to help you ponder this our response to God in the mess of our real lives: My most useful way of relating to God is this simple attention and a real desire for God. Often I find myself attached to God with greater delight than a baby at his mother’s breast. – Brother Lawrence “The Practice of the Presence of God” I think we have lost the art of delighting in God – our culture has become so human focused…

Day 27-God delivers delights daily

I have found the most amazing quote while reading Sue Monk Kidd’s book “When the Heart Waits: Spiritual Direction for Life’s Sacred Questions” that goes to the heart of what I am trying to say in my 31 Day Series on Seeing God in the Mess of Real Life… Author and Presbyterian minister Eugene Peterson was quoted in an interview saying, “The assumption of spirituality is that always God is doing something before I know it. So the task is not to get God to do something I think needs to be done, but to become aware of what God is…

Day 26 – living by a faith that gives God room to work…

So I mentioned Cain and Abel yesterday. To recap -Abel and his sacrifice was accepted by God because he lived by faith. On my journey to seeing God turn up in my messy real life – to see Him working – to see His glory – I have discovered that my faith needs to give God room to work. It is so easy to have a preconceived idea on what God’s working is going to look like. I don’t think we can put God in a box and label it – this is how God will work today. I am probably…

Day 25 -the key to seeing God in our messy real lives…

There is something strong that pulls at your heartstrings when your child is sick. Even when they are nearly as tall as you are! My youngest – 15 yrs – suffered with  a vomiting bug yesterday (or food poisoning – the debate still continues on that one). I felt helpless – there wasn’t much that I could do that would really help. What I did do seem to make him worse – of course the guilts came. Then our son asked us the question – “can you please pray for me?”. I knew then that he must be really suffering. Of…

Day 23 -who is your mentor?

I have been listening to a great podcast by Jeff Goins called The Portfolio Life and was intrigued with an particular interview with Lewis Howes where he talks about having mentors. Having a mentor has been one of the top 5 prayer requests for the past couple of years. I would love to have someone to bounce ideas off – someone a bit further down the same track that I am on. I want my mentor to inspire, guide and encourage me on the journey. Lewis Howes said an interesting thing about how to gain a mentor. He said that you…

Day 24 – more thoughts on the indwelling mentoring Spirit of God…

Benjamin Franklin said – Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn I find that too don’t you? I learn when I am involved in doing more than listening or reading. God knew this – of course- being the creator and all. That is why His BIG idea was to send His Spirit to live physically inside His people. This is the way we see God work in our real messy daily lives –a living ongoing moment by moment mentoring relationship with the creator of the universe.  We are supposed to be involved…
